Welcome to my blog!

The risks and rewards of a global economy built on robust internet security is a conversation which dominates the media and influences decision-making from the individual to the governmental level.  I am not alone in my view that the rise of cyber attacks means the ‘arms race’ which characterises the information security sector will continue to intensify and shape the personal relationship we have with the internet.

The reality facing businesses in 2017 is that not only network and security engineers are given the responsibility of security, but also the employees themselves.  This landscape of responsibility is incredibly interesting to watch as it dictates large aspects of the fast-growing marketplace.

The General Data Protection Regulation, coming into effect in May 2018, will charge companies up to 4% of their global turnover if a breach occurs.  For example, the infamous Talk Talk attack of 2015 would have cost the company up to £70m, demonstrating that this is a regulation with the potential to inspire massive cultural change.

With this in mind and with the rise of cloud computing and the internet-of-things, the information security sector is in my opinion, the most important field to be a part of in the next 10 years.

My name is Zoe Mackenzie and I have created this blog as a space to collate the latest in information security news, research and development to keep for future use and reference.
